Geocache Description:

The Friends of the Glengarry Trails are having a party called "Fall in the Fen" and we geocachers are invited! Bring the kids! Bring your mountain bike! Bring your dog! And, of course, bring your GPSr!

October 4th, 2009 from 12:30 to 15:00.

Located in the Garry River watershed just west of Alexandria, the Glengarry Trail system covers nearly 15 kms of natural beauty with many boardwalks and small bridges along the trails. The Glengarry Fen (or marsh) is home to a diverse collection of wildlife and is surrounded by a loop trail with bordwalks along the water's edge. Learn more about the trails at (visit link)

To celebrate the event, Dutchmaster and I are hiding a number of caches along the trails. These will be posted shortly. Please do not find them until the day of the event. We also decided to host our first ever geocaching event!

The event will feature group walks along the trails, information about dog sledding, refreshments, a nature craft project for the kids, and refreshments! We will also have information for non-geocachers who are interested in learning about the sport. We may even ask you to pair up with a muggle and show them how its done!

Each of the caches placed for this event will of course have FTF prizes and great swag, but there will be additional prizes for finding all the caches. We will also be placing a cache at the event so feel free to bring travel bugs and coins to swap and drop.

So, come mingle with some muggles, find some caches, and enjoy the beautiful trails! Hope to see you there!

UPDATE: (September 28th)

For those who are interested, we will be offering a competitive edge to this event. Each new cache will be allotted a value (points) for finding it during the event.

These points will be based on difficulty. Each point will provide the opportunity to add one name into our draw can. At 15:00, all entries must be submitted so that we may draw winners no later than 15:15.

Winners will get the opportunity to select a prize from the prize table. I will be providing three prizes as well as some honey, but any donations to the prize table will of course be welcome. We will continue drawing names until the table is empty.

UPDATE (October 2nd)

The township was unable to complete their road work on Lakeshore Road and as a result, this weekend's attendees should make sure they approach the event from the North (County Road 43) heading South towards the event parking on Lakeshore Road. Dutchmaster and I will be checking tomorrow if this effects the two caches on the other side of the construction.

See you soon!
