Staring point of historic race
This cache was put here on a whim. Out riding the roadbike one day and ended up here. This area is the starting point for the Marlay Point overnight yacht race. The race boasts a proud history commencing in 1968 after a discussion amongst club members about the merits of a long distance night time race. The first race with only about twenty starters captured the imagination of the Yachting fraternity throughout Australia and even from overseas. The halcyon days of the high rolling eighties saw the largest ever entry of 657 yachts in 1986 making it at that time arguably the largest yacht race in the world. I remember camping one year at wattle point and watching the boats passing by. Quite impressive. If your ever down this way on the week-end of the race, find a spot along the course an take in the sights. The cache is a 200ml cliplock container with FTF certificate and a couple of swaps. Happy hunting.
