Geocache Description:

This is a night time cache - I doubt you will be able to find the
cache during the day. Per the sign in the parking lot the park is
open until 10, but I wouldn’t push it - you should be able to spot
the reflectors at dusk (1/2 hour before sunset) with a good flashlight. I was able to spot the fire tacks with a flashlight and it was still light enough out that I didn't really need the light to see where I was stepping. Also while the park
is deeply wooded, the parking is near a couple of houses – I’d
suggest a little light and noise discipline (as they say in the
military) until you get into the woods and on the trail. The other nice thing about this old growth forest is about zero bushwacking off the trail - even in the summer!

The coordinates above will only bring you to the parking and a place where you can get some clues to spot the first “firetack” reflector. On a large rock
there is a dedication to the park. The dedication occurred on
7/4/1974.

The first reflector can be seen from N 39 15.691 W 084
21.338

There is an easy to follow gravel trail to get from
the parking to the first fire tack. At the split in the trail you
can go either way - that end of the trail is a loop. Then it is an fairly easy
to spot dirt trail heading north where you’ll be able to pick up
the fire tacks here and there along the way. When you see the pair
of fire tacks it’s time to look off the trail for the tacks leading
to the cache. There will be multiple tacks near the GZ.

Safety Tips:

You will want to drop some waypoints as you go. The fire
tacks might be great at leading you to the cache, but might not
work so well getting you back to the parking!

As with all caching – let someone know where you are going.

Bring spare batteries and I’d bring a backup flashlight. You need a “good” flashlight, not a key ring LED or some wimpy single AA-cell Mag-light. If possible, you’d like it to project a beam out to 100 feet. The reflectors are easiest to see about 50'-100' away.

Firetack tip:
I'd suggest holding the flashlight at eye level and looking about 100' away. The fire tacks aren't that relective up close.
