A place of peace with heartache etched in stone. See if you can
locate the six children of Daniel and Catherine Smay. Each died in
the same month of the same year in 1881. They perished from the
diphtheria epidemic.
An interesting historical side note:
An area known as School House Flats existed near this memorial
site. The school building was moved from this area to its present
location near the dam in 1922. It is now used as a church and
believed to be the only original building left from when the area
was first settled.
If you visit, take some time to enjoy some of the local hiking
trails, fishing, geocaches and all the other attractions Black
Moshannon State Park has to offer.
