Geocache Description:

Near Thrang Beck

This cache marks the Mallerstang end of the “Highway” which was the original road through Mallerstang before the B6259 was built along the bottom of the dale in the 1820s. The route dates back at least two thousand years, and probably much longer, but it is known as Lady Anne’s Highway because Anne Clifford (Countess of Pembroke) travelled along it when she visited her castles which she restored at Skipton, Pendragon, Appleby, Brough and Brougham. She also built and restored churches and almshouses – all this between the ages of 60 and 86.
The cache is hidden just off the start of the Highway, in the Mallerstang millennium wood. After the original cache went missing, I have moved the location, but kept the clue.
