Devetaki plateau is made from limestone, some sandstone and is
home of a big number unique karst phenomenons – caves, surface
precipices, rock bridges, springs, gorges, canyons, waterfalls and
water cascades. “The Ladder” cave is located at Devetaki plateau
near village of Karpachevo, which is close to well-known waterfalls
of Krushuna. The place is also near to more famous “Devetashka”
cave.
“The Ladder” cave is well hidden into the fields near the village
and is not popular or cultivated place - we spent few hours
searching for it, but for sure it worth all the efforts.
Approaching the location from the end of the village you have to
leave your vehicle (the dirt road is suitable only for 4x4) and
following the waypoints provided will find the place easily. When
you reach the place you will see the hole in the ground and a small
metal ladder leading somewhere downwards into the dark and cold
cave.
Once you get down you will be amazed of cave’s huge entrance hall
which is at all your directions around. It is so huge, that we were
unable to take a pictures of it…
The cave itself is not accessible unless you are experienced and
equipped speleologist, but even its entrance is gorgeous place.
Please note, that there are no clues of recent maintenance
activities and the ladder is (beautifully) overgrown, slippery and
somewhat rust-eaten.
Be even more careful walking around and into the cave in case of
recent rain or snow.
Go there and enjoy this beautiful place.
Good luck and keep on cachin’
