Geocache Description:

Eagle Scout Multi Cache is designed to take the geocacher on a tour of the seven Eagle Scout projects that have been completed at Travis Dolphin Dog Park. Terrain is variable with a fairly steep slope to the lake shore. FTF Prize is a Scout Oath Keychain.

Each stage of this multi cache will take you to a feature created by one of the Eagle Scouts from Boy Scout Troop 1947 in Polson, Montana. Some folks have had trouble with Stage 2, please read the additional waypoint information because Stage 2 had to be a virtual cache. The creation of the dog park was the result of an Eagle Scout project by Jonathan Crosby. Jonathan started work on the project during the summer of 2007 by organizing his scout troop and community volunteers to clean the tons of scrap metal from the riverbank. This was followed by community fundraising to raise the $12,000 needed to fence the park. He worked closely with the Polson Parks Department and Karen Sargeant to coordinate these efforts. The second Eagle project was completed during the summer of 2008 by Stefan McCrumb. He raised the necessary funds and gained permissions to construct the dock along the lake shore. He worked closely with dock construction companies in donations of materials and labor. The information kiosk was constructed by Eagle Scout Sam Boyle in the spring of 2009. Sam gained permission from Polson City Council and worked with donated materials from local lumber yards to create the sign. The forth project was to create the trail system within the park so folks could access the dock area by either the direct route or via an easy grade switch back trail. This was completed by Peregrine (Clay) Frissell in 2011. The fifth project was completed by Dylan McCrumb in 2013. Dylan welded and installed a metal ramp alongside the existing dock enabling dogs an easy access to and from the water. The sixth project was completed in the spring of 2014 by Carlton (Cash) Sisler. He raised funds for, purchased and installed a water fountain for dogs and their human companions. The seventh project was completed by Sutton Kanta who constructed and installed three bench seats along the trails. Travis Dolphin Dog Park was opened by the Governor of Montana, Brian Schweitzer and his dog Jag on May 30th 2008. The park is named after Travis Dolphin, a city water department employee who passed away at a young age. Scouts from Troop 1947 continue to improve this wonderful facility with ongoing maintenance provided by the City of Polson Parks Department.
