The cemetery is most likely named after William Spaulding, an early
settler of Wheatfield Township, and whose family plot you will be
near. Mr Spaulding was born in New York in 1805, married in 1828,
and settled in Michigan in 1848. From all accounts he prospered as
a farmer here in Wheatfield Twp.
The posted coordinates will take you to the graves of two young
women with something in common. They are buried next to the
Spaulding family, but both were married to a Jerome B. Waldo, who
seems to be an early settler of Williamston who owned a planing
mill with his brother. Both Sarah C and Emma E married Mr. Waldo at
a young age and died soon thereafter, which was not that uncommon
for the time.
For the North coordinates, read the stone for Sarah and find her
age in years. Add this to N 42 36.(573).
For the West, take Emma's age in years and add to W 084
18.(452). This will take you to a medium sized cylindrical Lock
n Lock.
The "SQ" in the cache name above signifies Spirit Quest, a project
by the Northwest Ohio Geocachers to distinguish those caches that
are set in cemeteries and memorial gardens. This cache is part of
that series created by NWOGEO members to highlight cemeteries or
memorial gardens in the area. Please be respectful of the area, and
observe their rules and posted hours which are typically sunrise to
sunset.
