Geocache Description:

The mid 1860s brought much excitement to this area of Northern California. Not only was the building of the transcontinental railroad proceeding at neckbreak speed across the Sierra, but hordes of disappointed gold seekers were leaving the mines and heading for the silver fields of Nevada. These events led to much commerce and traffic in the area we now call Cisco Grove.
The railroad had reached this spot in 1866 when the town was divided into lots. About this time, pioneer James Gould purchased the land from the railroad magnates called the "Big Four" and named it for the beautiful cottonwoods that still grow here.
In the 1930s the Gould family had several structures built on the site. They served popular "new" areas for skiing in winter and vacationing in summer. There was a store, bar and restaurant, gas station, cabins and gift shop. Of these, only two stone cabins remain which are now protected as part of the new Cisco Grove Gould Park. We are told that the larger cabin was the gift shop and the smaller building was a lemonade stand.
The 15.7 acre property was transferred to Placer County (2004) and placed under protection as a nature preserve. The area includes both open space and riparian land along the South Fork of the Yuba River.

At this site you will be in a small area with many very tall trees which seem to confuse our GPSers. Do not despair but persist in your search.
