On Flagstaff Road, Eustis.
This is part of my "Mariah" (GC1XCHA) trilogy, based on the lyrics "Away out here they have a name for rain and wind and fire. The rain is Tess, the fire's Joe and they call the wind Mariah". Joe, appropriately enough, is in an area that was burned many years ago. I believe the year was 1947. Someone told me CMP was cutting prior to flooding the land that is now Flagstaff Lake. They had cord wood stacked along this road and they were burning slash, the fire got away from them and into the cordwood and from there into the forest. If you look around you carefully you will see many blackened stumps. And then look at how beautiful this area is now, nice forests, mountain views and since it is autumn, foliage. And remember what it must have looked like just after the burn. Only you can prevent forest fires!
And by the way, Tess is ready to go out but won't make it in time for the event. It's been a dry autumn, you know...
