Geocache Description:

The cache is located off a public bridleway which, although well surfaced, is steep in places.

This cache is one of 7 caches making up the Ogston Circuit series, 6 traditional caches hold the clue to the coordinates of the Ogston Circuit multicache (collect the value of a letter from the lid of each cache). All the caches are associated with a different type of tree. The traditional caches can be completed individually and in any order but as a 5 mile circular walking route around Ogston reservoir, it is recommended you commence with Cache #1, then proceed anticlockwise from #2 to #6 or clockwise from #6 to #2 to be best placed for the final multicache.

Park at lay-by opposite the Greyhound pub on the A61 (N53°07.8449' W001°25.0711'). Walk S some 50m to access the bridleway down Ogston Lane. As you descend the track, there are some fine views of Ogston Hall and Ogston Reservoir. Part of the estate belonging to the hall was flooded in 1957 for the creation of the reservoir.

After finding the cache (a film canister), you can choose to complete the circuit in reverse order to Cache #6 by taking the footpath along the River Amber. However, the route here and for subsequent caches is described for a circular walk in an anticlockwise direction. After retrieving Cache #1 continue along Ogston Lane. At the end of Ogston Lane, turn right to follow the track to the road at Severn Trent’s water works and then turn left to take the South Hill Road for Cache #2.
