Geocache Description:

The cache is located on a public footpath close to the road and a quick cache and dash from the reservoir car park (closed after 7.30pm) at N53°08.700' W001°26.443'

This cache is one of 7 caches making up the Ogston Circuit series, 6 traditional caches hold the clue to the coordinates of the Ogston Circuit multicache (collect the value of a letter from the lid of each cache). All the caches are associated with a different type of tree. The traditional caches can be completed individually and in any order but as a 5 mile circular walking route around Ogston reservoir, it is recommended you commence with Cache #1, then proceed anticlockwise from #2 to #6 or clockwise from #6 to #2 to be best placed for the final multicache.

After completing this cache (a clip-lock box), continue along the road around the northern perimeter of the reservoir. If you are feeling thirsty, you can make a short detour up White Horse Lane to the White Horse public house in Woolley Moor. When the valley was flooded for the reservoir in 1958, a number of houses were demolished and new housing was provided in what is now Woolley Moor village. Further details about the history of the area can be found on the local school’s web site (visit link) . The road cuts across the northern tip of the reservoir where the River Amber feeds into it. During the summer months, you may be lucky to observe Great Crested Grebes nesting on either section of the reservoir. Take the road to the left, which follows the western perimeter of the reservoir, to continue on to Cache #4.
