The cache is located on a bridleway off the reservoir road, accessed on a sharp bend. Parking can be found at a reservoir car park (closes 4.30 to 9.30pm depending on the time of year) at N53°08.400' W001°26.600' . From the car park you can observe the sailing boats. There is also a public bird hide at the far side of the car park. Ogston Bird Club gives guided walks on some Saturdays.
This cache is one of 7 caches making up the Ogston Circuit series, 6 traditional caches hold the clue to the coordinates of the Ogston Circuit multicache (collect the value of a letter from the lid of each cache). All the caches are associated with a different type of tree. The traditional caches can be completed individually and in any order but as a 5 mile circular walking route around Ogston reservoir, it is recommended you commence with Cache #1, then proceed anticlockwise from #2 to #6 or clockwise from #6 to #2 to be best placed for the final multicache. After completing this cache (clip-lock box), retrace your steps back down to the reservoir road and continue along its western perimeter for Cache #5. Only the middle section of the road has a footpath, so take care. You can avoid some road sections by using off road footpaths.
