So you want to go for a hike with a great
view?
Allow me to
introduce the “Knife Edge” Geocache. At a respectable
822 meters above sea level you are well set for a fantastic
view!
My
route
I park at Rhodes
Memorial and make my way up to the Block House. This takes me about
20-30 minutes.

The Block
house |
There is a path
behind the Block house to the right. After a few meters the path
forks. Take the left path (the more vertical one). The fork in the
path is at S33°57.040 E018°27.000. Follow the path which zigzags up
the hill and then goes about 85 meters to your right, where you
will have your first scramble.

The top of
scramble at Approx S33°57.052 E018°26.908. Then you make your way
left up and around the point. Up here you will have to exercise
much caution as there are significant drops.
You will probably notice a small
square building higher up. This I am told is an old Fire Lookout
hut. Aim for this. It is at S33°57.120 E018°26.880. It is a nice
spot for a rest.

Cape Town, where
else? |
Once you are at
the Fire Lookout hut, follow the path to S33°57.115 E018°26.691.
Here you need to take the path that goes straight up the hill. The
other path takes you around the mountain and looks like a lovely
walk. But right now you are on a mission.

So go straight up
and once you reach S33°57.123 E018°26.607, you can head straight
for the cache.

I did not continue
along Knife Edge to Devil's Peak as the path gets rather tricky
.
I recommend you take water, some food, a jacket and a hat. The
weather can change very quickly.
Always let someone know where you are going and when you expect to
return.
The whole trip took me about 3 hours.
I recommend that this cache is not attempted with dogs or
children.
This cache is done entirely at your own risk.
