Paese è un comune italiano di quasi 22.000 abitanti della della
provincia di Treviso, in Veneto. Esso è il settimo nella provincia
per numero di residenti.
Nel '400 circa Paese fu teatro della costruzione del primo
esempio di villa veneta in provincia di Treviso: Villa Quaglia
(località Villa).
I primi abitanti del territorio sono
sicuramente stati nomadi che si spostavano in cerca di acqua e zone
favorevoli per cacciare. Le tracce suggeriscono che già nel 5000
a.c. vi fossero nomadi in questa zona. Col tempo essi diventarono
sedentari favorendo attività come agricoltura, artigianato e
allevamento. L'allevamento trova conferma nei nomi di alcuni
borghi, tra cui "case armentieri" a Castagnole. Infatti "Armentum"
in latino significava greggie o mandria.
Nel 181 a.c. le legioni romane sconfissero i Galli e si
impossessarono di queste terre. Quindi per preservare la sicurezza
di questa zone nel 150 a.c. circa fu costruita la strada Postumia,a
scopo militare. Grazie a ciò nel 148 a.c. venne fondato Postioma
(in romano vico postumio), che si ritiene essere un castrum
romano
A Postioma però vi sono anche tracce
longobarde: il patrono del paese, San Giorgio era particolarmente
importante per i longobardi convertiti al cristianesimo. A questo
periodo, ovvero nel termine dell'impero romano e all'inizio delle
invasioni barbariche, si fa risalire anche la fondazione di Paese.
Paese inizialmente non era un villaggio unito, ma era diviso in due
borgate:
- Villaggio di Sopra ovvero l'attuale località Sovernigo (in
latino vico superior) con patrono Santa Maria Vergine
- Villaggio di Sotto ovvero le attuali località Villa e
Piovel

Paese is a an italian municipality of almost 22.000 inhabitants
of the province of Treviso, in Veneto. It is at the moment the
seventh province for resident number.
In the '400 in Paese was constructed the first example of
venetian villa in the province of Treviso: Villa Quaglia (in the
location of Villa).
The first inhabitants of this territory were mainly nomads that
moved in search of water and good hunting areas, The traces suggest
that already in 5000 B.C. there were nomads in these places. With
time, they became sedentary, promoting activities such as
agriculture, craftmaship and breeding. The breeding finds its
confirmation in the names of some districts, such as "case
armentieri" in Castagnole. Infact "Armentum" in latin means
"herd".
In 181 B.C. the roman legions defeated the Gauls and gained
control of these lands. To preserve the safety of the area in 150
B.C. was constructed for military purpose the Postumia road. Thanks
to this in 148 B.C. Postioma was founded (in ancient roman
postumio), which is believed to have been a roman castrum.
At Postioma traces of longobards have been found: the patron of the
village, san Giorgo was particularly important for the longobards
who converted to christianity. Following this period, or better
said, the end of the roman empire and the starting of the barbaric
invasions, the founding of Paese can be set. Paese initially was
not a united village, but was divided in two portions:
- Village of Top or the actual Sovernigo (in latin vico
superior) with patron The Sacred Vergine Mary
- Villaggio of Below or the actual locations of Villa and
Piovel
