Geocache Description:

This cache is one of a series placed in parks or woodland around Bexhill-on-Sea. As it's a woodland cache, the GPS may jump about near the cache site but the clue is more detailed to compensate. THE EASTERN COORDS OF THE DOWNS BONUS CACHE ARE IN THE CACHE - don't forget to note them.

Bexhill Downs are a real treasure in the heart of the town. Used for cricket games, the town's primary school cross-country run, endless ball games and dog walks, the Downs are very appreciated. My family enjoyed picnics, hide-and-seek, playing in the park, puppy training, endless ball games, the children's swings and slide - and tree climbing. The cache is hidden near the tree that was the first our son Richard ever climbed unaided, to join his friend Hugh in very high (6 foot up) branches. This is an excellent CITO cache as, unfortunately, there can be a lot of litter - but it has improved since the nearby secondary school closed. But you can also spot old fashioned 'dens', just like those probably built on the Downs by generations of children. Parking is available on Down Road, which bisects the Downs, but note that the banks at the side of the road get steeper as you go uphill, so best to park at the bottom. There are tarmacked paths, well-established dirt paths and grassy woodland avenues all over the Downs: the walk between this cache and the two other Downs caches is very pleasant and a relatively short stroll.
