I've been trying to get North to this church for a long time. The copper domes have been calling me and calling me. Finally!
This is the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Kahwin) located at Rge Rd 162, north of Twp Rd 580. This one is well worth the the drive. The church was constructed in 1932 and subsequently destroyed by fire in 1933. Construction on the present church began in 1934. Both sanctuaries were built under the direction of John Mnoholitny, a congregation member living in the area, who became renowned across Canada as a church builder. This is the usual crudiform structure topped by a central dome, with two cupolas on towers. The domes are really what make this church stand out. The congregation has gone to great lengths to paint not only the domes, but also the bells and the gates all in this beautiful copper color.
The bells are something to look at. Brian rang them quietly while we were here and they are beautiful, although it looks like the tower they are in needs some tlc.
The cache is a small tupperware container with a very small pencil in it but no sharpener. There is a FTF lotto ticket - good luck!!
