1066 Trail 1 Traditional Cache

Maintenence visit to check on cache this morning as previous DNF's.
Sadly cache appears to have gone [:(]
Despite a good look around we were unable to find the cache.
We have decided to archive this one.
Thanks to everyone that has found this cache over the years.

Suggested parking is at N50 55.377 E000 29.232. From here take the public footpath opposite (sign low down by wall), & go the same way as the DoDo....Follow footpath past cottages & straight ahead through gate, down through field of small trees. The walk to this cache is on a public footpath through fields.
This is one of our 5 caches around the historic town of Battle in East Sussex. All of which can be done individually or as a longer circular walk through both town & countryside, taking in all the sights of this historic town along the way. Here you have wonderful views of 1066 countryside. In front slightly to the left is the Great Wood. A predominantly coniferous woodland. 186 ha (186 acres) with heathy open areas adjoining wet flushes and streams. Sweet Chestnut is still coppiced, continuing the wood's link to local industry. Many animals live there including Foxes, Badgers, Hobby, Nightjar, and Pipits, to name a few. In front to the right is Battle Church - St Mary the Virgin & Battle Abbey. If continuing the series you can follow the footpath along the top of the field, passing allotments on your left...There are some great scarecrows in there!!. Just past the allotments you can turn Left down the narrow road, following public footpath signs which will lead you to 1066 Trail 3. This is a 1.6l round clip-n-lock plastic container in a camo drawstring bag, with certificates for the first 3 to find. Contents when placed - Log book & pencil, Mini Torch, shopping trolley token, yo-yo, dice, 2 x bouncy balls, butterfly eraser, dog highlighter pen. Please ensure that cache is fastened securely & replaced carefully, This is a popular area & stealth may be required. ** AS PER GEOCACHING RULES YOU CAN ONLY CLAIM A FIND IF YOU SIGN THE LOG SHEET **
