Dorkasaurus Rex Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dr.Dive: Well this was a good cache while it lasted, however since I don't live in LA and don't visit this area anymore, I'm unable to maintain this cache and am forced to archive it.

Geocache Description:

This cache was placed in honor of my friend Dorkasaurus Rex, a dinosaur fanatic, comic enthusiast, and graphic artist from San Diego. He had a major medical problem and is now in the nearby UCLA Medical Center. I am an Australian living in San Diego, and "Dork" and I would often go cavorting in Pacific Beach where he lived. I often slept on his couch after longs nights out. We were great friends and it is sad to see him the way he is now. Perhaps we cavorted a little too much? Once Dork gets healthy enough to be in a wheelchair I'd like to bring him here to the Mathias Botanical Garden at UCLA. I have an interest in plants and this place is a tranquil respite from the hustle and bustle of the Westwood area.

The cache is a mini Altoids tin containing only a log, so bring a pen to sign. The cache is just outside the botanical garden and is accessible even when the garden is closed. There are plant specimens with labels near the cache and I'm particularly fond of cacti and succulents, thus the location. Check the Related Web Page link at the top of this listing for more information on the Mathias Botanical Garden. There you can find directions and parking. Keep in mind that the garden is no longer open on Sundays, but the cache is always accessible.

*UPDATE* Dorkasaurus suffered a ruptured aortic aneurysm but survived the surgery to repair it. However, during the time between the incident and his surgery he didn't get good blood flow to his lower spine and kidneys and is now paralyzed from the waist down and on dialysis for the rest of his life. He is now back in San Diego at a rehab hospital. Sorry for the bad news.

*UPDATE* After 19 months of being bed ridden and no signs of recovery Dork couldn't take any more of the miserable existence he was living and decided to stop getting his dialysis, and thus end his life. After a couple of weeks without dialysis he died on Feb 7, 2011 aged 54. He will be missed.
