Geocache Description:

Short walk from car park. easy cache

Ballykissane Pier is located about a mile outside of Killorglin. Views of Callinafercy, Killorglin Golf Club and across to Castlemaine.
Fishing is available form the pier so may be busy in Summer months beware of mugglers. The cache can be reached by walking over the laneway by the nearby monument.
The monument is in recognition of the following event:
On Good Friday in 1916, two cars raced at high speed to reach Cahersiveen. Their mission was to rob a radio school of its equipment and set up a communication link with an arms running ship, the Aud. One of the cars took a wrong turn and went off Ballykissane Pier, killing three of the four occupants. These three men are listed as the first casualties of the Easter Rising. A monolithic monument to them stands near the pier today. It commemorates an important event in Irish history, but it is worth travelling to the pier just for the wonderful view of the River Laune.

If the tide is in and the water is very high do not attempt this cache, this should only be the case in very high tides in Winter though. Other than that the path will be plainly seen!!
