Geocache Description:

Please don't block the private drive that is right across from this cache.

This is one of the places that I've been coming to since I was a small child. I wish I knew more history about the area, but the facts seem to only come from the older folks who use to live here in the early 1900's and they're getting fewer and fewer. I do know that there was a glass factory on a near by ridge north of here in the valley. It burned down sometime before 1890. About 40 years ago you could still walk on the yet to be overgrown railroad track that was on the other side of the river from here. This track took materials in and out of the valley way before the road was built. Years ago I met a man who was a "CCC Boy" who was able to tell me about how he helped build the road in the early to mid 1930's. He said that they were all just 18 to 20 year olds and were scared to death of all the rattlesnakes that came out of the rocks everytime they would dynamite. He also said for the first few weeks on this road job, he didn't sleep because he was too scared of sleeping on the ground where the snakes had been the day before.
