Geocache Description:

The First of The Edge of the Wilderness Series Geocaches

The Edge of the Wilderness Edge of the WildernessNational Scenic Byway

Celebrate our northern hospitality, hometown pride and the treasures of our natural heritage. The adventurous voyageurs of nearly 300 years ago discovered it and now you can too, The Edge of the Wilderness National Scenic Byway.

You don't need an excuse to spend time on Highway 38 during the Fall of the year, the colors of the season are usually enough reason for a pleasurable drive. But if it's not Fall, maybe a little Geocaching is a good excuse too.

Grand Rapids is considered to be the gateway city for the Edge of the Wilderness Scenic Byway. If you're planning to see the fall colors, this is the place to start your tour. Grand Rapids was established in the 1870's and was originally known for a 3.5 mile long river rapids where steamboats could no longer negociate the Mississippi River.

Grand Rapids hosts the first of 14 interpretive sites along the Edge of the Wilderness Scenic Byway. You can visit the Edge of the Wilderness kiosk which contains information on the area history. Take a little time to read the interesting and informative facts and learn the rich history of Grand Rapids, the Gateway City to the Edge of the Wilderness Scenic Byway.

This is a traditional cache with a smallAlcatraz Swim Team container. It contains the typical contents for a Geocache but there's not a lot of extra space for trading items. Due to it's location, it might make a nice place for trading small TB's & Geocoins.

Be sure to take one of the cache cards from the container and read it carefully.

There is a token reward for the FTF and a valuable TTF prize as well. Good luck to everyone!

Remember: Caching is Cool!

Disclaimer: This GeoCache may be jinxed! I tripped on a branch along the sidewalk while placing the cache. Then I realized that I locked my keys in the car when I was leaving. Be careful!
