Wyrmholes Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

OF-Erad: With great sadness, the realm that the Nexus Council retired to deep beneath the surface was recently attacked by "Moder Jord", and she left a Black Spore Plague that has forced the Council to evacuate their lair. The Wyrms have gotten on in their years, and now are now transforming into guardians of the land. Before dragon’s twilight overtakes them, a great Wyrm finds a location that suits its nature and transports its vast hoard to the spot. Then it enters one last period of dragon sleep, consuming its hoard as it magically becomes one with the landscape. Such a great Wyrm could transform into a hill or mountain, a deep lake, a wooded grove, a secluded desert, or some other terrain feature.
Legends describe young dragons seeking knowledge and advice from these sleeping guardians, as well as sacrilegious thieves hunting for the remains of the hoard. They believe that only a portion of the hoard is consumed in the transformation. The rest waits at the bottom of the lake, or deep within the mountain, or in some other appropriately guarded location in the terrain.

The next chapter - War of the Wyrms and the Dracoliches.

A final method for cheating the dragon’s twilight is only available to evil dragons. Through a complex process involving arcane spells of a malevolent nature, these dragons become undead creatures known as dracoliches. These creatures are extremely rare, for all living dragons - including the chromatic dragons - despise and fear dracoliches. When the presence of such a creature is detected, the Council gathers a horde of different dragons to oppose it.
Preparations for the battle are being made. Will you be a part of this next battle? (Stay Tuned)

Geocache Description:

A wyrm is a dragon species of European origin. Although modern literature portrays dragons as huge fire-breathing, scaly lizard-like brutes that live underground, wyrms are actually highly intelligent and have an advanced society and culture. Most people have never seen any type of dragon, of course, but let me assure you they are alive and thriving throughout the Tri-Lakes region.

I have received word of a recent incident that threatens to upset the peaceful balance between our worlds. A certain rare dragon egg has been stolen from Wyrm King Mordath's royal nursery. Suspected is Lord Wal-de-Mart, a surface dweller who is believed to be breeding his own trained dragon army to expand his already vast empire. Proceed with all possible haste to Bogwater Library for your briefing package.

Be warned — dangers and trials await you. Bogwater Library staff and the Five Wyrm Kings of the Nexus will do all they can to help you, but in the end the battle will be between you and Lord Wal-de-Mart. Who will prevail?

About the Cache

The 5/5 rating is not a joke. You will certainly need “special equipment” to complete the quest. And the terrain? Well, let's just say a lot of people will find it difficult and some will be unable to bring themselves to do what is necessary to reach the intermediate locations. Attacking the cache with one or two friends is highly recommended.

Although having an analytical mind in your group will be an asset, the adventure is designed to allow you to decide to do less thinking and more traveling if that should be your preference. Whether you can complete the quest depends on your individual skills and phobias.

This is not a cache-and-dash. Accessing the final container will take a minimum of several hours of challenging navigation and occasional head-scratching. Most searchers will need more than one visit to complete this adventure.

To begin, locate the reference shelf at Bogwater Library. Do not disturb the landscaping, rocks, concrete, utility boxes, brick wall, or sprinkler system. The container is not there. Surface muggles will also be of no help. Finding the Library is your first test.

Thank you to dragon expert Tiger's-eye for consulting on wyrm culture and correcting many discrepancies in early drafts. Any remaining errors are entirely my own.
