This area of the Buffalo River is right downtown near where it
empties into Lake Erie. Historically this area has been heavily
industrial and you will be able to see some of the remaining
industry across the river.
You should be able to get some interesting views from here.
To the west you will see the river winding it's way to it's
terminance at Lake Erie and the Naval Park.
To the south and east you will see some of Buffalo's industrial
past.
The view to the north, however, will be completely blocked by the
NFTA train station.
The Buffalo River is often used by recreational boaters and
canoers as it is now considered an urban canoe trail. I have also
often seen herons, egrets and other waterfowl feeding here.
The path will continue east from here down to the Edward M.
Cotter fire boat dock and west to the newly rebuilt Commercial Slip
then on to the naval Park and the Marina. While you are here you
may want to take the opportunity to walk along the river trail and
find some of the other great caches in the area.
Parking will often be difficult in this area, especially during
arena events.
The nearest parking is an NFTA only lot. If you park here you
may get ticketed or towed. Park here only at your own risk!
The nearest legal parking is right in front of HSBC Arena, but
please note that it is 30 minute parking only and banned during
arena events.
You may also park at the Commercial Slip or in the Cobblestone
District on Illinois or Mississippi Streets.
As always, have fun and Happy Caching!
Explicit permission for the cache placement was received from
Mr. Ben Antonio, manager of the NFTA Rail Station, 164 Ohio St,
Buffalo, NY.
