Geocache Description:

High in Colorado Challenge

The final is at the posted coordinates. The listed difficulty and terrain ratings are for the final cache. The difficulty of the challenge will vary depending on the caches you choose.

This cache was originally created by A & J – Adrift. It was the inspiration for many caching adventures and holds a special place in the hearts of those of us who completed it. I am honored to adopt it and keep it going for the next generation of adventurers. I have moved some of the legacy cache information to a note dated 11/13/2025 in the logs below.

The Rules:

Find enough of the highest 100 Traditional caches in Colorado (that you don't own) so that the sum of the elevation for those caches is 500,000 feet or more.

If a cache is archived, it will be dropped from the list and you can no longer count its elevation. The checker will add new high Traditional caches when they are published and the lowest of the 100 will be dropped from the list.

Caches you own DO NOT count. The checker will skip those caches and show you the 100 Traditional highest caches that you do not own.

The results from the checker are the only method to determine your elevation total. The elevation listed in the checker for each cache is the only one that will be accepted.

You can see a bookmark list of the highest 100 Traditional caches in Colorado HERE. If you own one of these caches, please run the checker on yourself to see the complete list of caches available for you to use to qualify for this challenge.

You may find the final cache and sign the physical log anytime. However, you may only log a find after completing the challenge.

PGC Checker

Special thanks to ernie66 and Project GC for putting this Challenge Checker together.

On your way to the final cache, you'll see fossilized seashells in the shale at about 13,000 feet. After you find the cache, you can bag nearby Treasury Mountain. However, take care. While it's a walk-up to the cache, from there to the summit is Class 2+ climbing with some exposure.

Leader Board as of 11/13/2025

The names of cachers who have already logged the cache are in green. Please note that ALL cachers that have logged the challenge qualified at that time. Their totals may have dropped below 500,000 due to caches that have been archived since then. Elevation totals of 500,000 and above are in the green section and 250,000-499,999 are in yellow. Special thanks to Kerewin0430 for helping create and maintain this leader board.
