KGC's Lost
Treasure
First to Find:
Cteam
(All stages of this cache are located at Great Seal State Park.)
The
Knights of the Golden Circle (KGC) was a secret society during and
after the Civil War era dedicated to the south's re-birth. The
society hid many treasures throughout the U.S., so if the South
would ever rise again, it would have a wealthy economy beneath the
earth's surface. The KGC left clues as to how to find their hidden
treasures by carving strange symbols into trees and engraving
strange latin phrases into stone. If one knew how to decrypt these
strange symbols and ciphers, one could find the treasure.
This cache is a three stage multi/mystery cache with all stages
located off the Shawnee Ridge Trail. Please note the terrain
rating; this geocache is not for those with heart conditions and/or
those who are not up to a rough challenge. All additional hints for
the stages are provided in the field for you. The cipher that I
have presented on this webpage is not a cipher that the actual KGC
used (their ciphers are still to be decoded to this day). This
cipher is fairly easy to solve (the difficulty rating is a
combination of this cipher and the field work involved). I have
provided an additional waypoint for parking and the trail starts at
N 39 22.816 W 082 55.662. The FTF will be rewarded with a
gold $1 coin! The cache is a regular size
container and can hold trading items. Please bring your own pen
or pencil.
Can you find the KGC's Lost Treasure? Make sure you take plenty
of water and a camera (for this is a very beautiful hike in
southern Ohio). Please rehide each stage just as you found it.
Please note that evening hours are not the best time to search for
the KGC's Lost Treasure. I hope all who seek this cache enjoy the
challenge and adventure.
CAUTION FALL-TIME SEEKERS: Please
obtain a Great Seal Trail Map before pursuing this cache
(especially in the fall season). The leaves tend to cover the
trails and most stages of this cache are sans-trail so it is very
easy to get turned around or lost. I have included some park maps
in the Stage 1 container (please take one). Thank you and
enjoy!
