Another soldier from the famous Iron Brigade

John Murphy

Corp CoF

2 WI Cav

If you notice the marker to the right of John's there is another marker. The same name and date of death but its not the same person.

The Iron Brigade initially consisted of the 2nd, 6th, and 7th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiments, along with the 19th Indiana, and was later joined by the 24th Michigan. This composition of men from three Western states led it to be sometimes referred to as the Iron Brigade of the West. They were known throughout the war as the Black Hats because of the black 1858 model Hardee hats issued to Army regulars,
rather than the blue kepis worn in most other units.

As a BONUS to my passion for Wisconsin Civil War History those who find this cache can discover one of my Civil War Series Geocoins by answering this question.
What day did both John Murphy's die?
This coin has a special meaning to the 2nd Wi as they lost 70% of their men at Gettysburg.
