I'd like to invite you to a
literature-significant place, the grave of the muse of Csokonai,
Lilla. The spot is the place for literature-lovers. The 9 months of
relationship with Lilla (Julianna Vajda) were decisive in the life
and poetry of Csokonai Vitéz Mihály - lived between 1773 and
1805.

In 1797 Csokonai went to Komárom, where the
county held its rebel assembly on 26th April. This years summer he
met the daughter of Pál Komáromi who was a trader. He fell in love
with his daughter Julianna Vajda. The Lilla poems were born
predominantly this time. The young couple wanted to get married,
but Julianna's father didn't allowed the marriage, as Csokonai was
too poor. She was given to István Lévai, a planktrader in
Dunaalmás. |
Julianna Vajda moved to Dunaalmás in 1798, as
the wife of the planktrader who was believed rich. 4 years after
her husband died in 1840, she got married in 1844 for the second
time. This time as the wife of Mihály Végh, the dean of Hetény.
This was also an unhappy marriage, therefore 5 years later, she
moved back to Dunaalmás. She died here in 1855, when she was 78
years old. For her request the suicide letter from Csokonai and the
"Lilla dalok" (Lilla poems) book were buried with her.
You may find the poems of Csokonai
in
Hungarian here.
The cache is hidden in Dunaalmás, a village along the Danube river.
It is not so far from the grave of Lilla. You'll find the treasure
20 metres from the church in a tree stump.
After finding it, it is worth to take a visit at the other Csokonai
memorial places. Best known is the Csokonai-Lilla memorial room.
