Geocache Description:

A quick survey of the area and you should be able to find this hide with ease. A large pullout on the side of the road provides easy parking.

In 1937, the Raahauge Family purchased a small farm on Hagen Road. Nay Raahague, the son of the Mare Island Ferry owner, and his wife Mary, a secretary on Mare Island, soon opened the Hagen Road Dairy. Together with the help of their daughters, they and produced milk and butter which they sold at the Dairy Drive-In.

By 1954, a large portion of the Hagen Road Dairy had fallen into disrepair. Blackberry vines from Sarco Creek crept onto the dairy and took over much of the land. Later that year, Carol Raahauge, daughter of Nay and Mary, married and purchased a portion of the family farm. Upon trying to bring the grounds back into shape, Carol discovered three of her mothers rose bushes when she cut through the dense thicket. Carol soon restored the garden to it’s former glory, planting nearly one thousand more rose bushes. Carol affectionately named her mother’s restored patch of roses, “The Secret Garden.”

The farm was eventually divided into different parcels under different ownership, but portions of the old dairy still remain today to the northeast of the cache site. The two barns across the field once housed the dairy’s cows and the easternmost building was once the milking barn. The Raahauge farmhouse sits beyond the barns and still remains as one of the valley’s oldest remaining structures and a popular stop on architectural home tours. The farm itself is now an equestrian training facility.

Congrats to Pathfinder Mark for the first to find !
