You are seeking a standard decon container near the summit of Ellenburg Mountain. This cache is accessed via the Tom Bevil Interpretive Trail (Orange Blaze). This trail encircles the summit, so you will need to bushwhack the last bit, up about 200' of elevation. Consider looking at a good topographic map to choose your approach. There are many approaches. Some are a whole lot more work than others. There is a nice cleared area at the summit perfect for a picnic or simple break while you're up here. Remember this is a letterbox hybrid. DO NOT TAKE THE STAMP in the cache!! Bring your stamp up here and stamp the log! I hope you have a great time. That's all you need to know about this cache, but if you want to read what's being commemorated, please keep on reading. This cache was placed to commemorate a couple of things!
This cache has been placed in deference to the last cache placed in the vicinity, Ellenburg's Peak (GCP4VE). My journey up this mountain to find this cache was one of my more memorable geocaching experiences. It was a tough hike, but the views of the lake and the wildlife were more than a fair reward. It was my hike up to this summit that caused me to rename our friend Last Chance to "Not-a-chance". This cache met an untimely demise. The new cache has been placed near the old cache hide spot. I've chosen the smaller container hoping not to attract attention of muggles who visit this neat place.

The View from Ellenburg Summit
This cache has been placed in honor of Last Chance. He has placed so many of my more memorable finds. I enjoy the walks and places he takes me. Ellenburg Peak was one example. There's a couple more of his near this cache at the time that I placed this one. I hope you enjoy them too. "Not-a-chance" has combines hiking with an occasionally touch to find micro in town. He's an interesting guy with a sharper eyed better half.

Last Chance and his sharper-eyed better half!
Lastly, the cache has been placed to commemorate HaresEar's 2000th find this day. HaresEar is quite a fellow and one of the North Alabama Geocaching Society's finest. Many times he's pulled a tough find out of thin are, especially during a GeoQuest or two. He's a great guy to share a walk on the trail with and share stories as you go. We came up here as part of the hunt for HaresEar's 2000th find. Not only did we find the nearby caches by Last Chance, but we also summitted cheeseburgers up here. We packed up a stove and cooked it all up right at the summit. Congratulations to HaresEar for joining the ranks of multi-millennial finders.
