Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden by the Senieji Trakai Hillfort mound.

"The hillfort as a defensive facility, contains two basic elements, i.e. the fortified locus itself and its fortifications. The fortified locus is the levelled summit of the hilltop. It was arranged on the summit of a mound. The levelled summit was enclosed by earth fortifications, which include ramparts, ditches, terraces and slopes, as well as wood fortifications, which include various fences, barriers, towers and walls. Only earth fortifications have survived until today. They usually consisted of several lines. Apart from the main rampart and ditch there used to be one or a few lines of additional smaller ramparts and shallow ditches..."

by Gintautas Zabiela, an archaelogist.

Radioamateurs may find it an interesting spot to operate their
short wave radios from VI87 that refers to Senieji Trakai Hillfort for a LHFA HAM Radio Award

Senieji Trakai is known as a birth place for Vytautas Didysis in 1350. Grand Duke Gediminas built a brick castle there and transferred Lithuanian capital from Kernave to Trakai. Kestutis married Birute there. The castle was ruined by Teutonic Order back in 1391 and abandoned. Vytautas Didysis later granted the ruins to Benedictian monks in 1405. The present monastery still hosts pieces of ruins of that from the 15th Century.

The coords provided are only approximate. As with all my hides I try to do as much sampling as possible, but seldom get a professional precision. Don't expect to find the cache exactly at the numbers your GPSr reads. Other than plainly logging "off coords" please add your version of correct coords, this will make your entry useful both for cache owner and other seekers. Appreciate your cooperation.
