Amici geocachers Vi raccomando la visita di questa località (Villa Piercy) nel bosco di Badd'e salighes (Valle dei salici) nel cuore del Marghine. Il nome Badd'e salighes (valle dei salici) esprime poeticamente quello che vedrete.
Boschi bellissimi che nascondono anche ai sardi la storia che c'è dietro.
Non tutti sanno che la strada ferrata che congiunge Cagliari ad Olbia e Porto Torres fu portata a termine dall'ingegnere inglese Benjamin Piercy (1827-1888) a cui il governo italiano presieduto da Quintino Sella nei primi anni del costituito Regno d'Italia affidò l'esecuzione del progetto che l'ingegnere inglese realizzò anche nella veste di azionista della Compagnia Reale delle Ferrovie Sarde.
Le sue referenze erano fuori discussione: aveva girato il mondo Africa,USA, Indie Orientali dove aveva progettato e portato a termine come direttore lavori le ferrovie della colonia inglese.
Come compenso del suo lavoro in Sardegna ottenne circa 3.700 ettari di Badd'e salighes.
Innamoratosi di queste terre impianto un'azienda agricola, un parco botanico con rare specie di piante esotiche e un efficiente allevamento di bestiame, introducendo razze di cavalli (arabo-inglese-sardo) e mucche sconosciute all'epoca.
Costrui anche una casa padronale sotto forma di castello in stile tipicamente inglese (villa Piercy) e una borgata per i coloni, trasmettendo l'amore per questa terra anche ai figli.
Il parco botanico è diventato attualmente il Parco montano del Marghine ed è un patrimonio che ci ha lasciato: i grandi viali di ippocastano, di calocedro, gli abeti, i grandi cedri o i cipressi di Lawson hanno una funzione eminentemente estetica, che ben si integrano con i grandi tassi millenari, gli aceri di Montpellier, gli agrifogli, le querce e i grandi lecci.
Era stimato da tutta la popolazione sarda, ma contava tra i suoi amici anche il futuro Re d'Italia Umberto e Giuseppe Garibaldi che da Caprera spesso andava a Villa Piercy per battute di caccia e fu anche padrino di Ricciotti figlio dell'eroe dei due mondi.
Morto nel 1888 a Londra la sua opera venne continuata dal figlio Benjamin Herbert e successivamente dai pronipoti fino ai primi del '900 poi lentamente inizio il declino.
La villa è stata restaurata pochi anni fa' e il parco montano rivalorizzato.

Not everyone knows that the railroad that connects Cagliari to Olbia and Porto Torres was completed by english engineer Benjamin Piercy (1827-1888) in which the Italian government headed by Quintino Sella in the early years of the kingdom of Italy gave up the 'implementation of the project that the engineer also published in as a shareholder of the Royal Society of Railways Sarde.
