Ciao collega Geocacher,

dopo oltre due mesi dalla mia ultima nota, non ho ricevuto alcuna risposta.

Per questa ragione sono costretto ad archiviare questo cache. Se non lo hai ancora fatto, per favore raccogli ogni resto del cache al più presto possibile.
Se avete intenzione di intervenire sul cache, una volta completata l'operazione per favore lasciatemi un messaggio con il numero waypoint GC relativo al cache. Sarò più che lieto di verificare nuovamente il cache per verificare la sua conformità con le linee guida.

after more than two months from my last note I have not receive any answer and no action has been taken on the cache. For this reason, I am archiving it. If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.
If you are going to fix the problems connected to this cache, once it is ready please drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache. I will be more than happy to take a look at your cache again to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting.

Geocache Description:


La Torre è nominalmente connessa, come appare chiaro, alla Torre del Mangia, poi legata all'elefante per evidente ricordo classico degli elefanti da combattimento di Pirro e Annibale.

"Questo simbolo si trova quasi identico in un piatto d'argento sbalsato dei sovrani greci di Battriana" (attualmente territorio russo; databile sicuramente al II secolo a.C.).

La sua sede è in via Salicotto. Suo Patrono è San Giacomo Maggiore. La Chiesa (di San Giacomo) fu edificata quale monumento - ricordo della battaglia di Camollia (25 luglio 1526) vinta dall'esercito senese contro le soldatesche di Clemente VII e di Firenze, nella quale si distinsero gli uomini delle Compagnie di Salicotto. All'interno conserva pregevoli pitture cinquecentesche e seicentesche.

Nel museo custodisce una tela di Antonio Bazzi detto "Il Sodoma" (1447-1549), raffigurante il Redentore che porta la croce, opera concessa dalla comunità per simbolico compenso delle ruberie perpetrate dal Governo Napoleonico ai danni dell'argenteria di questa Contrada.

Una delle più antiche testimonianze della rivalità fra Oca e Torre è quella del 26 luglio 1671 mentre molte altre si riferiscono ai rapporti fra Onda e Torre.

Recentemente le bandiere della Contrada e altri riferimenti simbolici, si concentrano sulla riproduzione di un sole con raggi bianco e celesti in campo rosso cremisi. Per il sole esiste la convinzione, araldicamente intesa, che il regno (in questo caso la Contrada) continuerà ad esistere finché l'astro risplenderà nel cielo.

La Società ha per denominazione "Elefante". Particolarmente vivace anche la Società delle Donne della "Stanzina".

Nella sede di questa Contrada si conserva una campana ricavata dalla fusione di un cannone catturato dagli uomini di Salicotto alle truppe del Ducato dei Medici nella menzionata battaglia di Camollia.

The Torre is obviously linked in name to the Mangia tower and the emblem itself also bears witness to the mighty elephants of Pirro and Hannibal.

This symbol is almost identical to that found embossed on a silver plate of the Greek sovereigns of Battriana (now Russian territory dating back to 200 B.C.

Its Seat is in via Salicotto. Its Patron Saint is San Giacomo Maggiore.

The Church of San Giacomo was built in memory of the battle of Camollia (25th July 1526) won by the Sienese army against the soldiers of Clement VII and the city of Florence in which the men of the Company of Salicotto distinguished themselves. It contains valuable paintings of the XVth and XVIth centuries. In its museum there is a painting by Antonio Bazzi, nicknamed "il Sodoma" (1447-1549), which represents the redeemer carrying a cross. Permission for this painting was given by the community as a symbolic recompense for the silver stolen from the Contrada by the Napoleonic Government.

The bronze baptismal font by the sculptor Fausto Corsini (1954) is to become a museum piece and will be replaced by a more recent one.

One of the oldest records of the rivality between Oca and Torre dates back to 26th July 1671 while many others refer to relations between Onda and Torre.

Recently, the flags and other symbolic references of the Contrada concentrate on the reproduction of a sun with white and pale blue rays on a crimson background. In heraldic symbolism the sun signifies that the realm (in this case the Contrada) will exist for as long as the sun shines.

The "Società" is called "Elefante". The women of the "Società", known as the "Donne della stanzina" (literally women of the small room) are particularly active.

In the Seat of this Contrada there is a bell made from a canon captured by the men of Salicotto from the troops of the Duchy of the Medici in the above-mentioned battle of Camollia.
