Curious about geocaching or are you a seasoned
geocaching veteran? All are welcome to join us for a
wonderful day of caching, friendship and geocaching education at
beautiful Emerson Point. We'll be meeting on World Hello Day
where everyone is asked to greet ten people, which you can easily
do at this fun geocaching event centered around a geocaching
Scrabble Scramble.

PLEASE LET US KNOW IN YOUR LOG LISTING HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE IN
YOUR PARTY, IF YOU WILL BE ATTENDING THE GEOCACHING PRESENTATION,
AND WHAT FOOD YOU WILL BE BRINGING
We will be providing a geocaching seminar to introduce and educate
people to the sport of geocaching and show how you can join in the
fun. So if you have some friends, neighbors or relatives that
are interested in the fun, bring them along and we'll get them
addicted…. errr, we mean "introduced" to the game. A little
introduction to geocaching you can share was broadcast recently on
WEDU's PBS show Jack Perkin's "A Gulf Coast Journal". Click
HERE to watch.

Manatee County is graciously helping sponsor this
event at
Emerson Point in north west Manatee County. We will be
meeting at the main
Emerson Point pavilion (time to be determined) to register and
prepare for a covered dish lunch. Please list in your attend
log what food you will be providing and bring enough to
share. We will try to provide some water and some beverages
but be sure to bring what you want and what you need when hiking
around for the events. Keep in mind there is no electricity at the
pavilion but there are grills available.

While everyone is enjoying the food we'll present
an introduction to geocaching including hide samples, containers,
techniques and etiquette. After the presentation we'll
provide the coordinates for the event caches and rules of the
game. We'll be doing a Scrabble Scramble and you'll be
collecting game pieces at the hides to form the highest point words
for geocaching door prizes.
SCRABBLE SCRAMBLE INFORMATION

Our new twist on the regular old poker run should be a load of fun
for everyone. Teams will consist of a handful of players but not
too many and no loners. Hopefully if we have newbies, some pros
will adopt 'em along to show them the ropes and share some stories
(and not scary stories, okay?). We will be hiding a dozen or so
event caches that will contain envelopes containing special
Scrabble letter cards. At 1:00 we will explain the rules to
everyone, divide up the teams (and you can go with who you want,
we're not separating people randomly) and hand out the coords.
We're going to try to have a way to upload the coords for people we
can interface with.
Teams will be turned loose on timed increments so not everyone is
bunched up together. Order will be in when people have all the
coords entered and they're ready to roll. Teams will have until
4:00 to locate all the event caches and retrieve one envelope from
each container. Teams do not have to find all containers to play
but the more you find, the better your chances. A couple of the
caches will contain only vowels to assure your team can create some
words and there might be some special tickets in some of the letter
envelopes.
After completing the run a scorekeeper will open the envelopes,
log the letters and hand out a Scrabble board. Then the team will
have to make as many words for as many points as they can, as long
as all the words share letters.
All words must be found in a Scrabble dictionary (we will provide
several for checking) and extra points will be given for geocaching
related terms (there will be a list on the score sheets. Prizes
will be awarded for the highest scores at 4:00.

More details will follow and the listing will be
updated as we finalize the plans. So put this on your watch
list and mark the date on your calendar so you don't miss out on
the fun. Please be sure to include the number of people attending
in your log, too, so we can be better prepared.
Enjoy,
iMPG
