THE TRAIL AND OTHER CACHES ALONG THE ROUTE
It is a 8km circular walk, but it is recommended that you pick up the other caches in the forest in an almost circular walk. This trail traverses the red/yellow trail, which will later change to the bike and horse trail. If in doubt check out the map at the parking area before proceeding.
Park at the picnic site at the Kologha Forest at S 32° 32.253 E 27° 21.871 (PK1GA9G) and find caches as you go along.
We thought it a good idea to place this cache to bring awareness for the Narina Trogon (a bird that we are yet to see in the wild). This is natural habitat for these birds so do be on the lookout for them as you hike and hope you will spot this elusive bird. Please note your sighting in your logging.
The Narina Trogon at 34cm is a furtive species, which, although brightly coloured, is difficult to see as it normally sits with its back to the observer, well camouflaged by its leafy, green surroundings. The combination of its crimson lower breast and belly and bright, emerald-green upper breast and back is diagnostic. The female lacks the green throat of the make and has a duller crimson breast. Its call is a soft, hoarse hoot, repeated six to ten times.
THE CACHE
To find the cache you need go to the most prominent tree in the area. You will be getting hotter after you have passed the fungi featured in the photo.
