Located in October Mountain State Forest. Short bushwhack off road to cach. Watch out for thorn bushes.
Just off Lenox-Whitney Place Road on October Mountain there once stood a stone tower that was part of the Whitney Family Estate. The tower was built in 1896 and used for a short time as a Fire Detection Station. In 1946 it was torn down because it was deemed unsafe. The only thing that is still standing are four footings. In one of them you will find a small bison tube so you will need a pen or pencil. Parking coordinates for winter are N42 21.950 W073 08.660. Can be reached by snowmobile or cross country skis. In the summer you can drive to the location if you have a high clearance vehicle. For more info you can go to www.firelookout.org/towers/ma/washington.htm
