Geocache Description:

Cache is in the woods in Black Hawk State Historical Site with permission. Terrain depends upon your approach, but it requires either some bushwacking or some hills. Difficulty is higher because of difficulty getting a good signal. It's was traditional ammo can hide - is a bison tube temporarily.

I saw a couple of deer when I entered the park - hence, the name of the cache.

You are looking for an ammo can that was the FTF prize for Joker3300's Grand Prize Game - thanks Joker!! It is filled with great swag provided by Joker along with some Halloween goodies I added for the kids. Feel free to take one of the Halloween items even if you have nothing to trade. Also contains a TB.

When I placed the cache, I bushwacked about 300 yards from the trailhead at N 41° 28.155 W 090° 34.026 (you can park on the street at the trailhead). The bushwacking was fairly easy to the cache.

When I returned to the cache to place a TB, I parked in the park's far southeast parking lot at N 41° 27.865 W 090° 34.000 by the picnic area down by the river and took the trail near the park sign, just across the road from the entrance to the picnic area, part of the way, then bushwacked between the hill and the creek. The distance from the car to the cache was about the same, but there was less bushwacking required.

I returned to my car by staying on the trail that went up the hill not far (south) from the cache and picked up the main trail at the top of the hill (just below the stairway on the main trail). That route did not require bushwacking, but the hill is pretty steep.

Or you can get to the cache from the main trail after coming through the park from the west, by taking the trail down the steep hill just below the stairway on the main trail.

Your choice of routes - you need to be on the west side of the creek. The cache is not far from the creek - maybe 20 feet or so west of it.

Enjoy!

***Congratulations to Joker3300 for FTF!***
