Nogal, arguably the most well-defined peak in the area and a striking landmark visable for many miles in all directions, is a popular destination for local hikers. Standing just shy of 10,000 feet, it offers spectacular views from the top. But if the height makes you apprehensive then you should be aware of the challenge that the hike up presents. The trail to the top, T26, while easy to follow and just 1.1 miles long, has an elevation gain of 1,000 feet in that short distance. This includes inclines of up to 65% in the last .2 mile. And the difficulty level is set high not just for the hike, but for the prep required to find your way to the signed trail. But while this is no park-and-grab, directions to the trail are fairly easy to find, the hike is short, and the views from the top are worth the effort. While some won't, most cachers will find this a fun challenge!
