Geocache Description:

This traditional cache hidden in a quiet Wilmot cemetery salutes our forefathers who came to Canada almost 175 years ago. The Michael Wilhelm Family has produced at least eight generations of over 4000 descendants and continues to make its mark on our local, national, and international society.

The Wilhelm Cemetery is located on the corner of a former Wilhelm farm, serving as a burial place for family members and other local pioneers. According to legend, Michael and Margaret were originally buried on the family farm two miles north of here, but were transferred to the site later. Sons Peter and Valentine rest nearby with their wives. The large stone cairn was built in 1931 to commemorate the family’s history. It was unveiled at that time by John S. Wilhelm, the oldest living grandson of the original family. Notice that he’s also resting nearby.

The small traditional cache has been hidden near the unmarked graves of Michael and Margaret. Note all the oak trees around which are a symbol of Germany. Yet, by the time the Wilhelms died, they were all Canadians. (Hint! There is one maple tree here)

Some GPS interference may occur from overhead hydro wires. Numbers will fluctuate.

Parking is available in the church parking lot across the side road. Avoid church service times.
