Geocache Description:

Number 7 in the Mt Hood View series

I have decided to do a M.H.V. series of caches and this will be the seventh one of 10 M.H.V. caches.

What is a M.H.V. cache? Well, to put it bluntly, its a place where you can be and see Mt Hood if you are within 100 feet of the cache.

For this cache, as long as the sky is clear, you can see Mt Hood from the cache location.

Each cache page will have one small factoid about Mt Hood.

You are viewing Mt Hood between two majestic Douglas Fir Trees on an extinct volcano. Yes, I found it ironic to view one volcano from another. Mt Tabor is unusual in that it's one of the few volcanos in the entire United States that is fully within a city.

According to a vulcanologist friend of mine, there is a 0% chance that Mt Tabor would ever erupt again.

Yes, it's nothing special to see Mt Hood from almost anywhere in or around Portland but the point is to draw the attention to the fact that we are so lucky to have a beautiful view no matter where we are in or near Portland. The goal is to pick places that aren't spectacular. Nothing special about them other than the view of the mountain.

Mt Hood fun fact: The glacially eroded summit area of Mt Hood consists of several andesitic or dacitic lava domes; Pleistocene collapses produced avalanches and lahars (rapidly moving mudflows) that traveled across the Columbia River to the north.
The eroded volcano has had at least four major eruptive periods during the past 15,000 years. The last three at Mount Hood occurred within the past 1,800 years from vents high on the southwest flank and produced deposits that were distributed primarily to the south and west along the Sandy and Zigzag Rivers.
The last eruptive period took place around 170 to 220 years ago, when dacitic lava domes, pyroclastic flows and mudflows were produced without major explosive eruptions. The prominent Crater Rock just below the summit is hypothesized to be the remains of one of these now-eroded domes.
This period includes the last major eruption of 1781–82 with a slightly more recent episode ending shortly before the arrival of Lewis and Clark in 1805. The latest minor eruptive event occurred in August 1907.

The cache is a small black container that is supposed to be hidden from everyone. It's a small "small" container or a very large micro. It's a tough call but it will hold a few small trade items. If rehidden properly, it should last a long time.
Use your geosenses and it's a pretty easy find. Leave your geosenses at home and you might end up with a DNF. Either way, have fun looking and watch out for muggles (hence the difficulty rating)

The cache MAY be accessible to some wheelchair users but I wouldn't say all because there is a little slope to contend with. The park is closed to vehicles on Wednesdays.

Please Email me if you need another hint.
