Geocache Description:

Located near the entrance to the Northern Territory Emergency Service, Darwin Volunteer Unit. This area also containes the Emergency Service Training Unit and the Vertical Rescue Team

You are looking for a small rectangular container. The cache contains a log only, so you will need your own pencil/pen. There is no room for swaps.
This site was originally the home of the Civil Defence Unit established during the Second World War. The Unit was disbanded after the war and later resurrected in 1962. Between 1965-67 the organisation had its Headqwarters at Parap at the old Papar Police Station. An operational headquarters (civil defence bunker) was built at Bishop Street at a cost of $54,000. The official birth date of the Northern Territory Emergency Service was set for 1 January 1975 but Cyclone Tracy which hit Darwin on 25 December 1974 changed that and gave the organisation a baptism of fire and had a major bearing on the future development of the organisation. The organisation is part of a tri-service - Police Fire and Emergency Services with the Commissioner of Police as the CEO and the the Fire Service and Emergency Service having Directors.
The Darwin Volunteer Unit now operates out of the complex along with the Training Unit. The complex is also home to the Vertical Rescue Unit which is made up of volunteers and permanent staff. The Emergency Service has the carriage of vertical rescue throughout the Northern Territory
