Fourmanhill is 1128ft high, modest by Scottish standards, but the views from the top are extensive.
Regular size lock box. Turn off A97 tight alongside the Bognie Arms pub. This single track road was known as the Queens Road. Mary Queen of Scots travelled this way en route from Aberdeen to lodgings at Rothiemay Castle (now demolished). Follow the road to its end where there is limited parking, N57 29 971 W002 41 900 don't worry people seldom come this way. The road contiues as a track to Rothiemay. Take the track to the left up into the wood. Near the top of the rise take the right fork and continue uphill. The track ends abruptly near the summit at a barbed wire fence. Turn right for the cache, left for the trig point and spectacular 360deg views. Take the usual care when cimbing any Scottish hill & wear sensible footware & waterproofs. Can be muddy. Red Squirrels, Deer & Rabbits regularly seen locally. Our dogs favourite walk.
