I moved to the Bellingham area in 2001 after growing up on a farm in the mid-west and spending most of my adult life in Alaska. I have been fascinated with some of the similarity of geographical names in this area and in other areas I have lived. I have made a puzzle cache using some of these names and a Zip code.
Before leaving home, look at a map of the Semiahmoo area and determine the following:
1. The name of the harbor behind Semiahmoo Spit.
2. The direction from the Spit to White Rock, B.C.
3. The name of the creek that flows into the harbor on the east side.
Now Google the name of the town and state these three words correspond to, and find its Zip code. Make each digit of the Zip code correspond to the letter/number combination as follows:
First digit = A
Second digit = B
Third digit = C
Fourth digit = D
Fifth digit = E
Now compute the values for R, S, T, U, V, and W by computing:
R = A - E, S = D + E, T = E - C
U = B, V = B, W = A
The final coordinates of the cache are: N = 48.59.RST W = 122 46.UVW
Cache is a small cammoed lock and lock.
Solving the first part of the cache will give you the name of the town nearest the farm where I grew up, and the place I recently returned to for my 50th high school graduation class reunion. 21 of us graduated in the class of 1959, 17 of us are still alive, and 14 of us were there for the reunion.
