Geocaching is such a great pastime. You learn and see so much history, some of it almost in your own back yard. Occasionally you’re brought to a once bustling town, now just foundations in the woods or a former lake or bog now swamp. Sometimes you’ll walk a trail where trains used to run or a mill that in it’s hay day supplied grain to the near by community.
This cache is one of those “Times Have Changed” hides and actually has 2 meanings.
1st you will be brought to Alcyon Lake Park which from the early 1900s to late 50s was a stock car race track with along the lake a boardwalk, skating rink, bowling alley and merry go round. Today where the race cars used to drive are athletic fields and the lake has reverted back to nature. (although you can still see the remnants of concrete steps)
2nd this cache is replacing my former “You Can’t Drive 55” hide. It was my 1st hide celebrating my 50th find. Now, 4 1/2 years and 800 more finds have passed and I am planting this cache to celebrate my 850th.
This is a no bushwhacking, very child friendly cache hidden in one of two places. The challenge will be you are looking for a micro. Park is open from dawn to dusk.
Have fun and think about how “Times Have Changed”.
