Located at Dotterel
Point at the estuary end of Pukehina Beach, this should be a fairly
easy find. You can follow the signs from SH2 to Pukehina Beach or
the more adventurous might like to wade across (recommend low tide)
from Little Waihi to this reserve. Note that NO DOGS are allowed as
this is a breeding area for our native Dotterels. Please be careful
not to disturb too much.
About a quarter of the national population of 1700 birds make
their home along the Bay of Plenty coast, some of which nest here
on this reserve.
An easy walk but
along sand dunes so not accessible to all, but kids would love this
one. There is a sort of path in the sand dunes starting just right
(from the road) of the Surf Life Saving Club. Cache is a 1ltr snap
lock container.
