Geocache Description:

Topeka State Hospital Cemetery is over 75 years old. Less than a dozen grave stones are visible, yet the cemetery contains 1,157 burials.

Burial sites are found by locating the row, you can see the row markers looking northwest from the cache site. There is also a newer memorial listing all the names of those buried here.

The Topeka State Hospital began in 1875 and was known as the Topeka Insane Asylum until 1901.

In 1888 Boston Corbett, who killed John Wilkes Booth, escaped from the Topeka Insane Asylum, where he had been confined since February 1887 and was never seen again.
