The Grand River Navigational Canal was formed in the early to mid 1800's during Brantford's period of great prosperity. The canal began at the Grand River and travelled all of the way to the downtown, enabling many horse drawn barges to bring much needed supplies to the growing city. There is a great description of this very interesting period near the modern dam that was built. Many people forget about this history and the location in the city, the location of one of the first hydro plants in north america, built by Albert Watts and supplied many street lamps in the downtown until demand exceeded supply. Truly the foundation of this great city.
This cache is in a challenging spot to reach, but ensure that you hold on. Be careful of the terrain, it can be quite precarious, depending on how you reach the location. Not recommended to find at night or in the winter.
Have fun!
