A cache in memory of my Mum, who passed away in 2003
Walking round this most beautiful peaceful churchyard recently, I saw a gravestone with my dear Mum's Christian name carved on it in big letters. It's a lovely name, quite common once but scarce nowadays, and I decided there and then that my next cache would be placed here, in memory of a lovely person.
The cache is placed with the kind permission of the Church Warden on the understanding that the peace and tranquility of the grounds will not be disturbed.
First find a safe place to park. The co-ordinates above are for the village hall in Easter Compton and some parking is normally available. (Take the entrance for the village hall and park at the rear).
You should then walk exactly 233 metres from the kissing gate (see below) on a bearing 218 degrees true (more or less South-West),along a public footpath to reach the next waypoint, from which the five clues are in a circle and all within 30 metres.
You should look around this open area and select the spots where YOU would place a small cache, then look there. Three are low down , two are higher up. There is no need to disturb any undergrowth - the bags rely on camouflage only and are clearly visible once you look in the right place !
There are five small containers in camouflaged pouches, each pot contains a picture - there should be no need to open them as the picture is clearly visible.
In each case identify the subject of the picture, either its name or its location (or whatever) and note the initial letter. For example, Eggs would be E, Sydney Opera House would be S, Pavarotti would be P, etc.
Please replace the clue containers carefully.
Next, these FIVE initial letters spell out a lady's name, which you should then search for within the churchyard - you will find it clearly displayed. (In case of duplication, this lady looks like she was married to Reggie Perrin's boss, in the earlier Leonard Rossiter version anyway! )
The cache is then a couple of metres away, at the most obvious place you might place a camo cache.
Combine it with my daughter's cache 'Warning - Girls Only' if you want to prolong your short gentle stroll by a couple of hundred metres or so of field footpaths.
August 2010 - Well, in the words of Victor Meldrew, i don't believe it - there are two graves which satisfy all of the criteria ! The relevant one is the much larger memorial.
