Wherigo 101: Cartridge Building
Please join us at the Mandarin Regional Library from 10:30 am to 3
pm in the community conference room (near the bathrooms) for a
Wherigo Cartridge Building Class and an impromptu Meet and
Greet.
If you are new to the area and just want to meet some of
your local geocachers, please come out to this event. There will be
seasoned cachers to answer your questions and even take you for a
run of the Mandarin area. Not only will you get to meet some of the
people who put caches in this area but you might also learn some
trade secrets!
If you plan on building a cartridge in the class then you will need
the following equipment:
Laptop
All the necessary cords to hook up your Laptop, GPS or
PDA
Extension Cord (just in case)
GPS or Pocket PC/PDA capable of playing the Wherigo
Program
Download the
Wherigo
Cartridge Building Program
Download
Wherigo
Player for Pocket PC's or PDA's
It is recommended to at least run through the tutorial on the
Wherigo website. This will give you an idea of how cartridge
building works. Check out the
Wherigo
Tutorial.
Even if you are not planning on building a Wherigo cartridge there
will still be plenty of room to sit and take notes. This class is
equipped with an overhead projector so that you will be able to
follow along and see how a cartridge is built.
The Community Conference Room at the Mandarin Library can easily
hold over 60 people and will be equipped with chairs, tables, AC,
overhead projection, restrooms, and Wi-Fi.
There will also be refreshments and snacks available during the
class.
The class will instruct on how to build four zones that will walk
around the facility; develop a couple of zones with questions to
answer as multiple choice and/or text entry. You will find that it
is easy to modify the zones to your own coords and the questions to
something that you can use, once you've run through the
process.
At the end of the class we will then go outside and field test our
simple Wherigo cartridge, which will include an actual
(unpublished) cache to be found. If all goes to plan, you will be
leaving the class with a simple Wherigo cartridge that you will be
able to modify for your very own Wherigo Cache.
Prizes will be given out to the first three Wherigo cartridges that
are built and published after the class from the attending
participants. There will also be a Wherigo coin to be handed out to
the most creative Wherigo Cache built in the Jacksonville
area.
