Jail Bird: A Tale of Coman123's Golden Ammo Can Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Canadianzombie: Aaronhaynes and I put quite a bit of time and effort into this cache, only to have someone walk away with the cache. In thinking of how the cache went missing and figured it had to be more than a casual/perchance find as the mini ammo can was way up in the tree. In any event, I'll put out another tribute cache to Coman123 as this cache was an important milestone cache for that family.
Cheers

The Golden Ammo Can:

I first heard about the tradition of the Golden Ammo Can in New York State. When a cacher reaches their 1000th cache milestone a group of his or her peers put out a cache using an ammo can painted gold as the final. Tradition also dictates that this person also gets the first to find on the cache as well.  This person has then joined an esteemed group of cachers known as the Golden Ammo Can Club (GACC). I really think that this idea has merit and is kind of fun for the recipient, so I’ve decided to bring it to The Great White North for a trial run.

Coman123: A Short Bio:

Coman123 short for Corrections Officer Man, is actually a team of cachers made up of Joe, Theresa and their three children.  This team started caching on January 12th, 2009 on the cache Paper House (GC1A78D), the words in that log proved fateful (“Just started caching, this was our first find, looks like we’re in for years of enjoyment”) as a little more than 10 months later they are about to reach probably the most important milestone in caching, 1000 finds. Those statistics would probably be impressive enough, but Coman123 has also put out 51 caches (including three events), has started The Lennox and Addington Geocachers group, as well as the website for the group and has proven a worthy competitor in the Eastern Ontario First to Find Competition, recently beating out the King, AaronHaynes when he couldn’t make the FTF on his own cache. In any event Coman123 has been a great asset to local caching in these last 10 months and hopefully for years to come. This cache is a dedication to the efforts that you have put in to make caching fun for the rest of us.

Jail Bird: A Tale of Coman123’s Golden Ammo Can:

Joe was sitting at work one day anxiously awaiting his upcoming 1000th cache milestone when he gets a call from his shift supervisor at the jail. “Joe, do you know a Canadianzombie and AaronHaynes” he asks. “Why yes, Aaron Haynes is doing a 10 year stint at Kingston Pen for car theft. Apparently he was going for an first to find and his car broke down, so he flagged down a car and tried to steal it, turns out it was an OPP’s car….not too smart that lad”. Joe also relayed the fact that AaronHaynes was actually Cacheviewer and that all of his FTF’s were bogus. “So what about this Canadianzombie” asked the supervisor. “Oh, he’s the smart one” relayed Joe, “He broke an encryption code and was able to get coordinates to all the caches before they were published, unfortunately he also stole $1,000,000 to buy his wife a new car…why do you ask”. The supervisor told Joe that the two had broken out of the Kingston Pen and were out to steal his Golden Ammo Can as revenge for him not giving them money for their canteen accounts. “Looks like they’ve left you a note Joe”. As the officer handed Joe the note written on toilet paper, he read it out loud

“Hey Joe, thanks for nothing you #$%&, we’re doing hard time and you can’t even give us cash for a chocolate bar, just for that, we’re taking your Golden Ammo Can and throwing it in the lake. Your dream of a 1000 cache milestone is done, I hope you remember this when that day comes and you’re left to wonder what might have been, you make us sick.

P.S. Tell Theresa I was asking about her and the kids”

“Looks like they’ve left some clues for you at some places around the area as well” said the supervisor, “Why do they want you to catch them”? Joe pondered this as he raced out of work and on to the first clue. “I will get them and when I do………”

The Work To Be Done:

*In all coordinate calculations assume that North 44 and West 076 are given. I would also suggest that if your math is at all rusty that you bring a calculator along with you on this one.

Waypoint #1:

You will notice three separate 4 digit numbers on a plaque, add these three numbers together to get another 4 digit number. Subtract this number from 19841 to get north coordinates and add it to 27317 to get the west coordinates.

Waypoint #2:

When you arrive at this site, you’ll notice a big sign and a small one. On the small sign is a four digit number, take this number and multiply it by the amount of numbers in the predominant colour of the small sign. Take this new four digit number and subtract it from 18524 to get the north coordinates and add it to 37752 to get the west coordinates.

Waypoint #3:

When you arrive at this site you’ll notice another sign, take note of all the words on the English side that start with I and chose the first one. Using a letter/number substitution grid (a=1 , b=2, c=3, etc) figure out a number using the first word, you should have a three digit number. Multiple this by the least predominant colour in the sign to give you another three digit number. Subtract this from 16270 to get the north coordinates. To get the west coordinates take the three digit number and add it to 57165 to get the west coordinates.

Waypoint #4:

You will notice yet another, but last sign. Take note of the words on the sign and chose the words that begin with V. Add the letters of all these words up and multiply them by the year Coman123 started caching. Take this number and subtract 18355 to get the north coordinates and add 27295 to get the west coordinates.

The Final:

Enjoy !!!

Epilogue:

Yeah, you’re just dying to know what happened aren’t you, well Coman123 followed the clues and almost caught the two dastardly criminals, but they got away. It has been said that AaronHaynes got a sex change and is now a female runway model named “Erin Heinz”.

Photobucket

CZ also had some reconstructive surgery done after he and Aaron parted ways and is now an unknown Hollywood B-lister.

They never did get to steal the Golden Ammo Can, but they did get a small measure of revenge, but you’ll see for yourself…………

Cheers
Cz and AaronHaynes
